Budget Estimates for Fiscal Year 1980 and Supplemental Appropriation Request for Fiscal Year 1979

The financial requirements necessary to carry out the responsibilities of GAO for fiscal year (FY) 1980 were presented. An increased level of funding is required to meet the workload increase GAO must meet in FY 1980. Statutory changes broadened the scope of the GAO overall responsibilities and expanded specific responsibilities. An increase in resources is necessary to meet the new demands and maintain the high level quality standards. All indications show that the workload will increase further. The additional funds requested are needed to permit GAO to meet known increases in workload without seriously damaging the basic and continuing audit and evaluation coverage Congress expects.
