Highlights

A decision was requested with regard to the entitlement to per diem and travel allowances of a member who was transferred from his duty station to a hospital for treatment and then transferred in a temporary duty status to a location near the hospital. Assignments to hospitals within the United States are regarded as permanent changes of station for purposes of entitlement to transportation of dependents and household goods. Members having basic eligibility for permanent change of station allowances may not be authorized per diem and other temporary duty allowances when the member is subsequently transferred to a location in the same area as the hospital. A member whose home port or duty station is in the United States who undergoes a period of prolonged hospitalization is not entitled to temporary duty allowances, but if there is no prolonged hospitalization, the member is eligible for travel allowances resulting from temporary duty near the hospital.
