Highlights

An advance decision was requested as to whether an employee could be reimbursed for transportation expenses incident to an anticipated temporary duty assignment which was abandoned due to the death of a family member. The employee was advised of the death while on annual leave in Europe en route to the temporary duty assignment. The employee may not be reimbursed for the cost of return travel to the United States but may be reimbursed travel expenses incurred to the point of the abandonment of the assignment, not to exceed the cost of direct travel to the temporary duty point. The employee may also be reimbursed for the advanced registration fee paid in connection with her anticipated assignment for which refund could not be obtained.
