Highlights

Lessors of rental property in Italy claimed additional rental because of devaluation of the dollar. Regulation of currency is a sovereign act, and a lessor is not entitled to additional rental because of currency devaluation. The lessor may not be paid an amount in excess of the stipulated rental, and there is no authorization for granting "cost of living" increases under the lease contracts. In addition, the claimant did not furnish evidence to support its claims of increased costs.
