Garnishment of Retired Pay of Air Force Member

A decision was requested concerning payment to satisfy a garnishment against a member's retired pay. The law of the state in which garnishment is sought governs garnishment proceedings against U.S. Government agencies. Existence of the member must be shown as a condition for disbursement of retired pay. The issue of the member's life or death is pending in court, and GAO will give great weight to the court's determination.
