Extension of Settlement Date Limitation

An employee requested reconsideration of the denial of his claim for reimbursement of real estate expenses incurred incident to the sale of his residence at his old duty station. The employee's request for an extension of the time to settle the sale of his old residence was denied by the Civilian Personnel Officer based upon a restrictive interpretation of the applicable regulations. After several appeals, the extension was authorized and approved by the successor Civilian Personnel Officer. The extension was valid even though approved more than 2 years after the effective date of the transfer.
