Highlights

An advance decision was requested regarding the eligibility of certain military personnel to payments of a variable reenlistment bonus. Service members who reenlisted or extended their then current enlistment before June 1, 1974, thereby qualifying for a variable reenlistment bonus, were not entitled to receive payment for an additional variable reenlistment bonus when they subsequently extended or further extended those reenlistments on or after June 1, l974. Since P.L. 93-277 repealed the variable reenlistment bonus provisions effective on that date and since the members had not actually extended or further extended those enlistments before 37 U.S.C. 308(g) was repealed, they acquired no vested rights to payment of additional bonuses thereafter.
