GAO gave further thought to findings presented in a testimony on a report “More Effective Action Is Needed on Auditors’ Findings—Millions Can Be Collected or Saved.” From some of the information that came out in the testimony, GAO believes it would be useful to have the Inspector General include information on progress made in resolving auditors’ findings as a part of the Inspector General’s semiannual report for those agencies having Inspectors General. Such reporting would make it easier for congress and for GAO to trace agencies progress in resolving this problem.
