Highlights

A Department of Commerce employee claimed reimbursement for the constructive cost of a rental car relating to the use of his personal automobile for business travel. GAO held that the: (1) applicable laws and regulations only permitted reimbursement for the employee's use of his personal automobile for official travel on a mileage basis; (2) employee's reimbursement for business travel was properly limited to the constructive cost of common carrier transportation, since the employee's use of his own car was for his convenience; and (3) employee was not entitled to additional reimbursement. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
