GAO commented on an Air Force official's protest of an Air Force claims settlement for the excess cost of transporting household goods. The protester contended that he should not be held liable for the excess cost of the shipment, since he was not made aware that the Air Force did not cover expenses for the shipment of wood and trailers. GAO held that: (1) the protester was legally responsible for payment of excess costs incurred, since it was obvious that wood and a trailer were not household goods; and (2) Air Force regulations only provided for the shipment of household goods, not in excess of prescribed weight allowances, to be paid at the government's expense.
